In response to the long term increase in silicosis and other silica-related illnesses among workers handling engineered stone, both federal and state/territory governments across Australia have unanimously moved to ban its use, supply, and manufacture from 1 July 2024.
The ban excludes engineered benchtops containing less than 1% crystalline silica by weight. Eco Benchtops have only ever produced products like this since our inception in 2017. We conduct X Ray diffraction tests on all recycled glass raw material batches to verify this is the case and can by request, show the test result of the raw material batch that was used in your benchtop. We do this because we feel it’s important to stand behind our products. Our cured slabs pose no health risks from inhalation, skin contact, eye contact, or ingestion, ensuring safety for workers throughout production, cutting, and installation.

Our groundbreaking technology fuses recycled glass with a binding agent and pigments to manufacture sustainable, highly durable benchtops and splashbacks containing only trace levels (less than 1% by weight) of crystalline silica. The 100% Australian-made product is cut using conventional engineered stone cutting methods and offers significantly less wear on cutting tools. Our materials are produced with a stunning honed finish requiring no further polishing, while edges can be polished using standard handheld polishers.
Our benchtops and splashbacks can be used in a diverse array of settings across commercial, retail and residential projects. Eco Benchtops’ high-quality finishes, durability, and ease of cleaning and maintenance make it ideal for high-traffic applications such as café benchtops, commercial and residential kitchens, retail countertops and reception areas. It has been in use over many years in retail stores such as L’Occitane, T2 and Nandos.

Clean your Eco Benchtop using a small quantity of non-bleach, non-abrasive cleaner with lukewarm water and a damp cloth or sponge. Spills including fruits, vegetables, food colourings, sauces and curries should be wiped off immediately and followed by cleaning with a mild detergent and water.
For stubborn stains not resolved through regular cleaning procedures, use a non-abrasive cleaning pad such as a household sponge, along with a glass and surface cleaner or cream cleanser product such as Jif. Clean with a circular motion and using only light pressure, ensuring the area is wet with water to allow the fine cleaning particles to gently remove the stain. Do not use steel wool or harsh chemicals such as paint removers, paint and stain strippers, nail polish removers, acetone, or concentrated bleach (such as undiluted Domestos).
Never cut directly onto the benchtop. A chopping board should always be used when chopping and cutting food.
In the unlikely event that you damage your Eco Benchtop, we’re here to help. Contact us on 1300 819 099 or online. One of our experienced technical representatives will review the type and scale of the damage and advise you on the available options and solutions.
Cracking is generally not covered under your Eco Benchtops warranty as it typically occurs due to a fabrication or installation error or as the result of mechanical stress, and does not represent a fault in the Eco Benchtops product itself. External factors that may contribute to cracking can include:
If a crack does occur, please contact the kitchen company or stonemason who installed your benchtop for further assistance.
Yes, Eco Benchtops partners with third-party suppliers to repair minor damage. It is safe to remove your Eco Benchtops should this be required for the repair process, as our crystalline silica-free product poses no health risk from hazardous dust when safely removing, handling, transporting, storing, or disposing of benchtops.
To ensure the best results and prevent the voiding of your warranty, Eco Benchtops should only be installed and/or fabricated by a professional stonemason.
